Microsoft and Nintendo have officially opened the doors to cross-play. It started with the announcement of Fortnite on Nintendo Switch last week and now continues with Minecraft thanks to a large update that just became available.
Nintendo has released an official trailer commemorating the monumental occasion, and it’s glorious in both its inclusiveness and the way it subtly digs at Sony for not being part of the partnership.
The latter is important because Sony does not allow a Fortnite account that was linked on a Switch or Xbox One to be used on PS4 – meaning all the items you’ve bought and paid for elsewhere can’t be used on the PS4 version of the game – nor does it allow cross-play for games like Minecraft or Rocket League, both of which exist on other platforms where cross-play is available.
The trailer Nintendo released today seems to fly in the face of those self-imposed limitations, showing that not only is cross-play between two rival consoles (in this case, Xbox One S and Nintendo Switch) possible, it’s encouraged.
For now, Sony remains elusive about its plans for cross-play – if it has any at all. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible for Sony to enable cross-play or that this trailer won’t light a fire underneath the console maker to open the gates, but for now PS4 gamers will be limited to playing games within the confines of their console ecosphere.
Brazil vs Costa Rica in Group E takes place on Friday, June 22. The venue is the impressive St Petersburg Stadium, holding 67,000 spectators.
Kick-off is 3pm local time, so that’s 1pm BST, 8am PT, 5am ET, 1pm AEST. You’ll need to tune in at 9am in Brazil and 6am in Costa Rica.
With the group stages of the World Cup 2018 reaching the halfway stage, we’re beginning to get a clearer idea of who will make the all-important knock-out stages at Russia 2018. And we know that people will be live streaming Brazil vs Costa Rica in their droves – so this page will tell you how.
Brazil will once again be hot favourites in this Group E clash, with a talent-rich squad expected to put on a show against Costa Rica. Hoping to pass a late fitness test,, Neymar will surely be influential in orchestrating Brazil’s assault on the Costa Rican goal, but if the Paris St-Germain star is not firing (or not available) there are plenty of dangerous forwards to pick up the slack.
You wouldn’t envy Costa Rica’s rearguard going into this one, yet hearteningly for the Los Ticos, much of their strength lies in their organisation and defensive qualities at this World Cup. Giancarlo González of Bologna and Oscar Duarte of Espanol form a solid presence in the middle of the defence, while star of the squad, Real Madrid’s Keylor Navas, will be hard to beat behind them.
Could we have another upset on the cards? Or is this Brazil side the real deal, and the Switzerland draw was a mere blip? You can find out with a free live stream of Brazil vs Costa Rica via one of the options outlined below. Don’t forget you can stay across all live streams at the 2018 World Cup wherever you are in the world, courtesy of our World Cup watching guide.
