20 years of web cryptography, and its amazing how frequently its configured sub-optimally. We've had numerous encryption algorithms, digests, protocols come, and should have GONE, but everyone has just left them on. Its time to shut out the legacy browser. The vast majority of the worlds browser install base now auto-updates, and with strict (and prescriptive) compliance in force, we get to drop the bloat form the past. In this talk we'll cover the current TRANSITIONS we're going through from a web admins perspective: TLS, Cipher Suites, HTTP Security Headers, CAs, the move to an encrypted-by-default web, and more. One of the secret ingredients in many successful, big code bases is that they found a good level of abstraction. One helpful technique is to write declarative code: You describe "what" you want to do, but don't mix it with the "how". While this is not specific to Rust, the language and its ecosystem help us write declarative code. This talk will go over some examples, covering famous crates and APIs as well as more obscure ones, to then dive into ways to use this to your advantage in your own code. While React Native leverages the platforms native API and user interface elements to build mobile applications, transfer of control between the various layers could sometimes come at the cost of performance. In this talk, we will look at the various tips and tricks for taking full advantage of React Native and using the performance attributes of the new architecture. We will start by adding instrumentation to a sample application across the Javascript, Java/ObjC and C++ layers. Next, we will look at how this information can be used to improve at specific places in the render process. Finally, we will look at rounding up our performance practices by adding this to our CI system to ensure that the apps we build with React Native stay smooth and blazing fast.
