Learn about the new external calls feature in Dynamics 365 Fraud Protection

In this feature overview video series, we highlight new capabilities included in the latest update to Dynamics 365 Fraud Protection. Introducing an External Calls mechanism as part of the 2021 release wave 1. From within Dynamics 365 Fraud Protection rules, merchants can now use data from API’s outside of Fraud Protection, to help determine which events should be approved or rejected. From the new External Calls page, you can connect to any API, providing real-time access to external data, such as third-party data enrichments, or custom AI models. As an example, you can connect to a third-party API to validate phone numbers. To do so, simply provide the endpoint, choose a method of authentication (AAD or anonymous) and specify any necessary parameters. You can also run a "Test" at any point to check the connection. Note that if the call is unsuccessful, error details will be available. And, if successful, you can view the response from the API. All defined External Calls can be referenced and selected for use in rules. For example, any data returned in the phone verification API. response, can be used in your rules. You may choose to flag transactions for review if the phone number provided is associated with a prepaid account. You can easily monitor these external calls on the External Call Performance page, where you can review information about request volume, latency, and errors over the past 3 weeks. By utilizing external calls in Fraud Protection’s rule engine, you can now make insightful event decisions based on real-time data from both inside and outside of Dynamics 365 Fraud Protection.
