With the iPhone 5 missing out on the iOS 11 upgrade at the tail end of last year, we expected to see the iPhone 5S be up for the chopping block when iOS 12 rolls around, but a new rumor suggests that’s not the case.

A test on WebKit (an open source browser engine that’s used within Safari) shows a listing from earlier in the year where the iPhone 5S was packed with iOS 12 software.

It’s not guaranteed to mean Apple will upgrade the iPhone 5S to the new software, but it does suggest the company is open to the idea and ready to test the older device with iOS 12.

When will we know?

Whether the iPhone 5S ultimately gets iOS 12 will likely come down to how the phone runs with the new software, and considering it’s a device from 2013 it may not be powerful enough to handle the update.

It’s expected iOS 12 will focus on reliability and improved battery life on all devices, rather than sweeping new features that change the way you use your iPhone.

We expect to learn more in the coming months, with iOS 12 likely to be launched at WWDC 2018, which is on from June 4 until June 8 this year. So during that event we’ll also be likely to find out if your iPhone 5S will get upgraded or not.

Set TV, a subscription IPTV service in the US, has found itself the center of a lawsuit, accused of mass copyright infringement.

The lawsuit comes from a group that consists of some of the biggest studios in Hollywood – Disney, 20th Century Fox, Columbia Pictures, Universal Pictures, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros are all mentioned, as well as Netflix and Amazon.

The lawsuit filed against Set TV alleges that the service “relies on third-party sources that illicitly reproduce copyrighted works and then provide streams of popular content such as movies still exclusively in theaters and television shows.”

Cutting the cord

This type of lawsuit isn’t uncommon, given movie and TV studios are extremely protective of their IP, but having so many big names team up against a single potential copyright infringer is noteworthy, especially one that touts itself as a paid service.

One of the reasons may be how professional the service looks, with the lawsuit explaining that on the surface it does look legitimate.

“For the customers who use Setvnow, the service provides hallmarks of using authorized streaming services – a user-friendly interface and reliable access to popular content – but with a notable exception: the customers only pay money to Defendants, not to Plaintiffs and other content creators upon whose copyrighted works Defendants’ business depends,” the suit reads.

If the lawsuit is successful, the service would be shutdown and there could be substantial fines, too – $150,000 for each piece of content on the site that infringes copyright. Given Set TV offer 500+ channels, these costs could well spiral.

Having 500+ channels for just $20 a month does seem like a bargain. Currently, the cheapest Sling TV Package offer 30+ channels for $20. YouTube TV lets you view 50+ YouTube TV channels for $49, while Hulu and DirecTV also have competitive pricing for 50-60 channels.

BMW will launch its new BMW Concept iX3 at the Auto China show this week after teasing its new all-electric vehicle on Twitter.

No other information was provided in the tweet, with a short animation confirming the name of the car and a new-look front grille.

The iX3 will be the third all-electric car from BMW, following in the footsteps of the i8 and i3 which were launched several years ago.

Only a concept

It’s worth noting that it may be quite a while before the BMW iX3 actually hits showrooms though, as the ‘Concept’ part of the name suggests it’s not ready for the road just yet.

We saw the same thing with Jaguar’s I-Pace all-electric SUV – a direct rival to the iX3 – which was originally announced as a concept in November 2016, but only became official in March 2018.

The Auto China show runs from April 25 to May 4 in Beijing, with more details about the car – including what it looks like – expected to be revealed during that time.
